All those people claiming Mythic+ is easier than heroic raiding make me wonder if they actually do either of them without outgearing them. One bad player in a mythic+ is much worse than one bad player in a raid.
If the loot trading is the issue, then start the mythic plus season 2 weeks later...
As somebody that heroic raids, M+ loot being the same as HC shortened the progression time, but didnt really have too much of an impact overall for me or my guild. It was better when titan forging was in place and m+ lower, because there was always a chance to get lucky and that gave a small but significant drive to do content below where you were currently at. As others have pointed out I think without titan forging there will not be as big a drive to do m+ for the gear reward and even if it makes no difference in reality if you are only doing m+, a lot of people will be unhappy with the change.
Wow this comment section is filled with try hard raiders or people just apposed to fun. Why reduce ilvl below heroic? M+ is a lot harder. This game needs morw paths to gear not less. I prob wont even do M+ this coming season..what a waste.
Um isn't this what it used to be in Legion?
I hope this change has just been communicated poorly. This change makes sense if it is only for the first few weeks of each season. It also makes no sense why you would stop the scaling of loot at 15, reward players for doing harder content.
Why not just add gear scaling beyond 15 key? You do 16 key and get an item on par with early Heroic raid bosses, you start doing 20s and enter the Mythic raiding level. Make it so that the amount of items in the chest is lower, in order to eliminate this time/rewards difference between raids and dungeons, and boom, both game modes are once again relevant. Is it so hard for an average Billy to time 15 key that anything beyond 15 is considered irrelevant? "Me do good, me complete 20 key, me get +2 items that give no bonus to time 21 key, me find meta or me go raid". How is it even remotely logical? I might understand that raids have been the endgame of WoW since the very beginning, but then why is Mythic+, a scalable mode that can and will reach raiding in terms of challenge at a certain scaling point, is still a thing? Either remove it, or embrace it and care for it. If you were the one to decide that your game has to offer its players a variety of entertainment, do not cripple that variety and promote one mode over the other. If you cannot bear the responsibility and dedicade enough resources for everything, do not add stuff, simple as that.
If anything this just makes it harder for raiders since loot trading and split runs will be much harder, so loot will be harder to obtain (and raids will be cleared slower as a result), while also making heroic drops always an upgrade and not forcing raiders to spam M+. This makes raids and HC specifically more challenging/difficult and more rewarding, which is a very welcome change, compared to now where you can outgear the hell out of HC by spamming dungeons. For M+ players, 3 ilvls are going to have an extremely minimal difference on their ability to push higher keys, which was always entirely determined by weekly chest loot which is becoming much better and streamlined now.
I'd like to see Blizzard explanation
I thought 10 ilvl difference in bfa was too much, but now they go for 16-19 after squish? Just why? That makes dungeons nothing but a chore, you don't care about what drops in the end - you just want to be done with 10 weekly runs and let lottery chest dress you.
Oooch that's a hard hit. I'm not a fan of mythic+ but I think that's a bad change. I don't disagree that mythic+ gear should be of lower item level than raid items (at the equivalent difficulty), if only because mythic+ is spammable. But those item levels seem REALLY low compared to raids. If heroic raiding gives you 213 ilvl, and mythic is 226, then I'd be fine with mythic+15 giving you 220 items. 210 seems drastically low.
