/u/ZedexisGaming took the opportunity to share their thoughts on the state of the professions as we start the transition in to the new expansion.Howdy fellow goblins. With BfA right around the corner, I was staring at my list of alts trying to figure out what I wanted to play and particularly which professions I was going to put priority on. This got me to thinking about the state of all of the professions currently in the game. Following are my thoughts and I would love to hear yours.

Gathering (Mining, Herbing, Skinning, Fishing) – WoD almost totally killed gathering with the garrison but it made a big comeback for Legion. I don’t think BfA will be any different. Crafters always need materials and they will pay big bucks for it. While the crafting professions might have bigger profit margins, gathering has always seemed to produce a nice steady income. Materials always sell and usually sell fast. One thing I am watching for BfA is old materials. With the change to how you level professions, gone are the days of power leveling a new toons profs using only WoD mats. On one hand you won’t need to in order to do the BfA stuff. On the other hand if enough folks still like finishing off the prior xpac stuff, old material prices could go up and low level gathering might be more profitable similar to how Ghost Iron is now.

Crafting (Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Leatherworking) – When it comes to endgame, I always found crafting to be very dependent on the level of gear you can produce. There have been times when the crafted gear was competitive with the gear you could get in the open world and during those times I always had success. Then there are the dead times when the game gear vastly out levels anything you can craft. There still is time before BfA launch for the devs to make more changes, so I am not sure where crafting is going to come out this time. Whatever they do, I have always made some gold selling transmog and Blacksmithing has shined in this area for me. Many folks don’t take the time to collect old rare recipes which can leave few competitors. Transmog never sells fast, but it can work.

Tailoring deserves a special consideration with bags. We will see how the new bag in BfA affects the market, but I would be willing to bet that most bags will still be profitable and sell very well especially early in the expansion. Heck, I have a low-level tailor alt that gets by just selling the cheap Netherweave ones which still are in demand.

Consumables (Alchemy, Jewelcrafting, Enchanting) – When I have gotten a toon to max level and managed to get all of the end game recipes/ranks, I have done well. However, I never have much luck with the lower level items. It feels to me like if someone is going to buy a gem, enchant, or flask, they want the best one or none at all. Maybe that comes down to the servers I play on, but it does make sense compared to how I play my own toons. I either am going to gear up a toon for endgame or not worry about it at all. Alchemy does have the benefit of transmutes which even the low level ones can make some decent gold. JC does have the MOP mounts and pets if you can get the recipes for them but otherwise these professions feel like max level or bust to me.

Inscription – This one deserves its own category. I recently got back into this profession and I think it can make some serious gold at all levels due to how glyphs work now. On the flip side, glyphs are cosmetic one time uses only and the market can be really slow for the less interesting ones. I also recently installed TSM and I think you need some kind of addon like this to manage your production and sales if you are going to be in the glyph market. BfA is also keeping the tomes and adding in new reputation contracts so that could also provide a steady income.

Engineering – I have done OK with engineering selling pets and mounts but that seems to be about it. Most of the other stuff is just for fun for me. BfA is giving back the bow/guns enchants which might be good sellers.

Conclusion - Overall, I am looking forward to BfA but I do have my concerns. The mid and high level rare mats look like they are going to come from Mythic Dungeons and Raids. This could make it so that crafting alts basically need to be end game geared up characters and doing that content in order to produce anything usable. Gathering will work and I think it makes sense to prioritize that at the beginning of the xpac. The rest I am taking a wait and see approach this time around. There still is plenty of time between now and launch for the devs to make drastic changes to the material requirements and item level of any crafted item or consumable. Therefore, I don’t think we can call anything a real “winner” or “loser” yet. What do you think?/u/Roscopower has a less optimistic view of how things will pan outIn my opinion professions that are affected by scrapbot are going to suffer the most and their margins are going to get cut the first. Think about leatherworking, tailoring or blacksmithing , most leathers or cloths are going to be from scrapbot from greens or blues.

Think of that player that does not have enchanting as a profession, better scrap the shit out of all greens, blues and epics and get something in return, what he's going to get? cloth from cloth related armors, leather from leather related armors and so on, the weapons... staffs provide gems and ores and weapons ores and leather.

The problem that comes with tailoring (and maybe leatherworking) in BfA is that the crafted gear is BoP, so the only good incomes will provide is bags through all expansion and maybe pets, and possibly standards and nets for pvp. That maybe is why I'm thinking in switching tailoring for another profession.

Maybe I'll switch tailoring for skinning, you ask why? because seems that skinning will provide more meats and poultry than normal farming so a third profession that is cooking comes into play.

Welp, not clear on what to do or what to invest in, but (to me) the Key point professions will be alchemy, inscription and blacksmithing, Alchemy raiders will need flasks and pots, so steady income. Inscription for cosmetic glyphs and trinkets the first two tiers of expansion. Then there is blacksmithing that can make ilvl 300 weapons (and armor) that are lvl 110, pretty much like WoD weapons, so they may sell very well through all expansion.Reckles with WTBGold fished up this neat video earlier this weekDid you collect the Artifact Fishing Pole in Legion ready for Battle for Azeroth? As this expansion comes to an end lets create a master list of all the most profitable vendor flip items. A vendor flip can be described as, purchasing a raw material and creating something new with it to vendor for profit.

At the end of every expansion players dump mats at bottom barrel prices and we can take advantage of it. In Mists it was, Cloaks, in WOD it was Alchemical Catalysts, Herbs, and Savage Bloods. What will Legion's Flips be??

I'd like to share with you all my journey in goldmaking and what I have been doing this month...

Well, first off, I hit a new milestone making 1 million in a month! I had not thought about it until I added up the gold. Interestingly, I am still under target for my 5 Million Challenge, but it goes to show what the psychology of following a goal and aiming high can do for motivation and results!!

So, for those that do not know, I am aiming to get the Brutosaur mount when it comes out and set myself a target to earn 5 million gold before release. I made a chart to track my progress, you are welcome to take a copy yourself and follow along ..

My tools of choice for gaining my gold are the professions Enchanting, Tailoring, Cooking and Leatherworking. This month, I added in Alchemy and Mining. In order to get the mining up to speed, I had to level my DK to 80 by doing Hellfire Ramparts in a boosted group to 72 and Karazhan trash farming from 72 to 80.

Enchanting - Enchanting sales have been good. The price of materials has dropped drastically with people dumping mats before BfA. I was able to finally clear my overstock of and then compete at current prices.

Good Legion enchants are still selling along with , and the Speed boosting Cloaks and Boots. I also added in WoD rings and necks (all the gifts apart from mastery) and they have been selling well. The only issue now is getting enough . I've started up my garrison Enchanters Study work orders to help.

Cooking - Food took a bit of a dive mid month where people on my server seemed to stop raiding. Things have picked up again with pre-patch imminent and I'm still getting sales of . Now that Mage Tower is up 24/7, is selling very well. I still have a stock of 2k which I bought for 2g and am selling for 9g. I've managed to sell about 1k of them already.

Tailoring - Tailoring is less profitable for me, but a steady income. I sell the Haxweave bags as I make them, I see no point in stock piling as the new bags may or may not supersede them. Shirts are small profits, but steady. I'm still selling Тенетканая маска and Одеяние из луноткани for good profits. I've not touched much this month, so can't comment on that.

Leatherworking - This is mainly for me, I used to get a few sales, but now with the mage tower, they are selling very well indeed for good prices too!

Alchemy - I'm focusing on transmute master side of things. I've had occasional sales of , the panther gems and , but there have been large gaps with no sales. When I do get them though, profits are high on my server. I'm hoping to expand on this next month.

Mining - Now I am up to Pandaria level, I can now complement the Alchemy with my own and which is working out really well so far. I only just got to 80 at the end of the month, most of the work was on leveling in June, so now I am looking forward to adding this in next month.

I had a big sale of an for 83k which was a nice boost to my professions as well as the odd transmog I've picked up on the way. I did explore a couple of farms like and Тенешелк as well as work on Halfhill Farm rep for my Alchemist.

All in all it's been a fantastic month and even though I am 500k short of my target, I'm pretty confident I'll make it up before BfA.

As part of our ongoing efforts to crack down on in-game advertising, we’ll be implementing some policy changes with how we handle moderation for advertisements made through the in-game Group Finder, and wanted to give you a heads up before these policies are put into place.

Beginning Monday, July 2nd, we will no longer allow any advertisements in the Group Finder for in-game services such as carries or boosts, including those being offered in exchange for in-game gold. The Group Finder is intended for -- as the name suggests -- finding groups, and these advertisements make it difficult to find active groups that are currently being formed. Additionally, these are often used as a cover for real-money sales, particularly given that in-game gold cannot be transferred cross-realm.

Note that this does not change our policy on selling things such as raid carries for in-game gold. Those are still allowed, but should be advertised through realm-specific methods such as trade chat.

We’ll be adding an “advertisement” option to the Group Finder’s right-click reporting function with Patch 8.0, but in the meantime, they can be reported using the “spam” option. Thank you for your understanding, and for helping us keep the Group Finder clear of unwanted advertisements.

/u/chimaera_hots expands on thisTerrible idea. Spamming trade/general chat isn't an appropriate change to the mechanics of buying/selling boosts.

Let's face it. Blizz created a monster by allowing in game sales of boosting services, and the ancillary economies surrounding it were foreseeable second order effects.
What they could have done, while maintaining those economies, is actually build the functionality into LFG to flag/filter those groups into/out of results presented based on user input.

Then they could have put in active measures to prevent them from being posted into LFG without the flag/filter selected, and disciplined accounts accordingly.
This would have been a happy middle of the road solution that would have required a bit of coding, but would have kept general and trade chat less full of macro spam. This will only make it worse on high pop servers.

(If they didn't want sales to thrive in the first place, they should have made them a violation of ToS. The fact that they didn't means that they don't mind the sales, just the venue through which they get made)Have you ever purchased a boost? I am not a booster but have paid for boosts in past with gold(Violet SW, and the Grove Warden). I get the ad's can get to be a bit much but I can only assume restricting the boosters ability to advertise to only forums and communities will only drive prices up. I was VERY worried about the artifact fishing pole as I have 13 alliance and 6 horde alts with the pole. One alliance and one horde have maxed out poles in order to get bait for the other alts as pool pops drop bait MUCH easier than having each alt catch their own bait. All the others have enough to get water walking and underwater swimming as a minimum.
