Obtaining Blizzard Shop and BlizzCon Vanity Items covers all the items from the in-game shop, Recruit-a-Friend, BlizzCon Virtual Tickets, and Collector's Editions. It also provides instructions on how to purchase items via the Battle.net and in-game stores.

Obtaining Items from the Black Market Auction House explains the unique nature of this Auction House, starting bid prices, all the rare items found on the AH, and other ways you can acquire them. Warlords of Draenor added more items to the BMAH including tabards, pets from MoP raids, and mounts like Стремительный зульский тигр.

Obtaining All the WoW Trading Card Game Items has been revamped to include a section just on Toys, as well as information on what items are on the BMAH. The guide also provides suggestions on what items have in-game equivalents--useful if you like an item but don't have the gold or money required to obtain it.

WotLK was released in Nov. 2008. The first realm to be opened with the AQ gates open (ie impossible to get the mount) was in februari 2009, and I believe the last time the gong was rung on the last server with the gates closed was in April or May the same year. So even if you couldn't bother to do it with a 'mere' 10 level advantage all through BC, you actually had up towards half a year to complete it at WotLK level.

I never went through the bother because I wanted it on my main character and not an alt. Then along comes account wide mounts and titles... sigh. Anyway, I do think that BMAH cheapens the achievements of (older) players. I mean are they going to sell the legendary Pandaria cloaks there next expansions as well?
