This has me worried. Not that I really care about the direction Blizzard takes with the game, it has long since lost its charm to me; but Blizzard stepping away from what has appeared to be their plan for years makes them look desperate in my eyes.I do somewhat understand their reasoning though, there seems to be an overwhelming amount of players currently complaining about content not being released fast enough, while at the same time complaining about content being too hard. What these people do not realize is that lowering the difficulty of raids and heroics will ultimately decrease the amount of time it takes to complete them; in the end making the wait to the next content patch feel longer. That people even bring up RIFT is amusing, from what I have heard from friends and people here on Wowhead, it really didn't live up to the hype and expectations. Much like other "WoW-killers"I'd like Blizzard to stick to their philosophy of "Releasing expansions when they're finished", but it seems that is no longer good enough.I say Blizzard should stop catering to the whiners and do what they feel is right for the game. This, in my opinion, clearly isn't it.
In the recent words of GLaDOS, "It would be funny if it weren't so sad..."Now if they only addressed the problem of bots and gold sellers seriously.I have no idea how it is on EU or US realms, but on Russian realms the trade chat is crawling with gold-selling ads. I tried reporting them via the in-chat spam function (which was something the GMs advised me to do), but it had no effect what so ever. I reported them name-by-name, in 3 days time my tickets got answered, and the spambots were banned. But - o hai thar! Same ads, slightly different nicknames, just a few hours later. I reported those, and the cycle continued. None of the GMs wanted to answer whether they would keep these people from registering new chars every other day. It's as if Blizz wanted someone to subtly ruin the game economics...
in mid-june, the community will be thriving again
There's room for improvement, obviously. I don't see any reason to shout that the sky is falling, though.Games decline over time. People stop playing, people come back. Looking at the numbers, WoW has lost ~5% of its prior active accounts. Breaking that number down, I'd guess that you'd find around half left due to active dislike of the expansion, another .5% left to try other games and may (or may not) be back, and the rest quit due to other reasons (lack of money, real life constraints, etc.).My main complaint - and not one great enough for me to cancel my sub; I'm actually leveling two characters in tandem right now (one solely through PvP, one through LFD) - is the zone bottleneck in high-end leveling. I'm so through with Deepholm right now it's not even funny. I've leveled four toons to 85 so far, and the ability to choose between starting in Vashj'ir or Hyjal was great - but then unless you grind, Deepholm is your only go-to point. I think it would have worked out better to include the Abyssal Maw as a leveling zone to progress into from Vashj'ir, and have Hyjal progress to Deepholm.
I think what we can learn from this is that the players DO NOT WANT QUICKER EXPANSIONS! We want QUALITY EXPANSIONS!Cataclysm felt like it took forever to come out because we ran out of content, not because Cata actually took too long to come out. Cata's out now and we're still running out of content, which means the expansion itself didn't come with enough content (or difficult enough content). People should not have been downing raid bosses two weeks after the expansion dropped. My biggest problem with WoW at this point is the way they %^&*ed up PvP. We all have a #$%^ ton more health, be we really don't do that much more damage. Plus, Blizzard still keeps nerfing and buffing classes based on PvP / Pve, which then affects the other and then they have to nerf or buff something else and the cycle continues. Cataclysm should have included a complete separation of PvP and PvE. Period. Blizzard says they want to keep a consistency between them, but there never was a consistency. PvP and PvE are completely different and should be treated as such.
If people complain about the moving through areas too quickly, no one is making you move out of them. Even back in vanilla I would stay in a zone until I did all the quets, even though they were green or grey, just so I could learn all the stories...
I'm getting bored myself and I've only played for two years. . .well bored and frustrated. The leveling was very easy. But the between the gold sellers and bots, players who use the gold sellers, and the fact that to get the best enchants I have to get exalted with ALL factions on ALL my toons, it just becomes a great big, bore. Plus there is always a couple of really irritating $%^&*!@s who troll trade chat endlessly and nothing ever happens to them. Thought archeaology was going to be fun, but it's instead nothing but terribly frustrating. The vanity items are worthless with extremely short proc times, downright pathetic animations (wind chimes anyone?) for the amount of time/fragments invested. . . and the really good ones are so hard to get. . . and I know that is by design, but at some point enough is enough and you invest hundreds of hours and still can't get the item you need/want because of the RNG. The pets are cute, though. Lag spikes, jerky movement and graphic quality that is lagging behind other games. The issue of getting knocked offline every time you land or finish a load screen while you are tabbed out. Just lots of little frustrations. They've messed with my lock so many times, and I despise the way they are homogenizing the classes, they took away class quests, which I greatly enjoyed. .. which I thought need MORE development, not LESS. I know I'm not alone in those frustrations. I don't want more re-skinned content shoved at me. . .I want the current content made better. If blizz thinks shoving out lots of new content is going to fix things. .. nope.
At the moment I am really bored with WoW, my main has done almost all of the soloable achievements in the game, although I have got tons of raid and pvp achievements still to go which I probably won't ever get around to doing. I have avoided doing any of the heroic dungeons because of thier difficulty (I miss the lolzerg of Wrath heroics and I'm a wrath baby I suppose :D). And I have lost the will to play any of my alts. I myself have been playing WoW for over 4 years and it's not really giving me the "wow" factor (no pun intented) anymore.
