I think a combo, male-female raid leading works well. Especially if they are friendly towards each other, as it can play out really well in a good-cop, bad-cop thing where they both switch which role they are playing depending on the situation, whether someone afk, someone rolling on loot, etc.Goes back to the differences in men and women - and when I say this, I mean very, very generally - with women perhaps being driven more by emotion and men by rationale. For example, someone goes afk. Male raid leader wants to kick him and get someone who is in gchat who can come right now. Logically it's a good thing to do to progress the raid and not keep 24 other people waiting. But it's a bit harsh, may be a completely fine reason why they have gone afk for a short time. The woman may well argue against kicking him because it's harsh. But then rolling on loot, a guy may see a piece of leather as a good option for a warrior (sure this is an old scenario, but valid nonetheless) and would let this warrior roll. The female would see leather, and warrior and simply not accept that. These are some past experiences but things I see as possibly being quite general.
Our Raid leader is a woman, and so is the Guild leader. Although she is backed up by 2 male Officers. I always thought women are a lot calmer while raiding and take the time to analyse what is actually going wrong and explaining. However I do not state that men do not do that, I can only talk of experience. I believe that regardless of the gender of the leader the raiding experience should be the same, it is more the will to lead and understanding of the given situations that matter.
As a guild leader..I delegate raid responsibility to the most competent player on, male or female.Giving different people the role of leadership teaches them the difficulties that come with it and ultimately makes them better group raiders. Once they get a taste of it ..you almost never have any problems with them after that.
Raid Leader: FemaleGuild Leader: FemaleTheir both the same person, go figure :PWomen seem to be more calm when raiding, keeping a cool-head when stuff hits the fan.
I am female and I am the leader of my guild, and I have 3 officers I work very closely with (2 of which are female and more like co-leaders). I usually lead the raids but my two other ladies are stronger willed and think in a more technical way than I, and are better at fight explanation and instruction. Whereas I take on the role of mediator and director. We work excellently together, and we're happy in our little guild. I wouldn't trade any of it for anything.
My guild (The Avengers on Eonar) has 3 officers who are all male, as well as myself as the GM, also a male. We are the raid leaders of the guild, and one of the officers is in charge so long as I am not present. However, as far as guild leadership and larger guild decisions are concerned, our guild operates in a benevolent dictatorship. I ask my officers and more veteran members their opinions, but the final decision is made by me.
Also, nothing against women, but I have noticed that the women in my guild are just as liable to nerd rage or rage quit as any guy, I think it is more the temperament of the individual that should be considered, not a bias based on the gender.
i have had some bad experience with a guild that was co-lead by a girl. well, the raidleader was male, the whole guild was male except for like two girls in the upper teens, but in reality the girls led the raids and pretty much always got their way.discussed on vent, should we try Zul aman or farm karazhan. everyone pretty much agreed on ZA. Girls wants to go karazhan, and starts speaking in a wierd whispering hypnotic voice, the other one talks with something like baby talk "oooh pwetty pwease, i wanna go kawa pwetty pwease i love you guys, pwetty pwease"(well probably in better english, they have english as 1st language, i dont, but you get the picture). Suddenly i am the only one that wants to go ZA. everytime they changed their voices they got exactly everything they wanted. Loot? they got first dibs on everything. Boosts through the heroics they wanted, everything.whenever i started to speak with wierd voice people got freaked out , so it didnt work for me. :D (Imagine Borat with a sore throat, trying to mimic their voices)
