I could see them including it with purchases of classic WoW, but not with Cataclysm. What would all of us who already use the authenticator do with a second authenticator? As it is, owning an authenticator gives me peace of mind - the only way someone could get into my account is if I gave them the authenticator and told them the password and e-mail address related to it. If making it mandatory will reduce the work the GMs have, then it will have a similar effect as to when they made loot tradeable for 2 hours between those eligible for it - it'll free up more of the time the GMs have for dealing with other problems, such as people exploiting, problems between players, and the occasional bugged mob or quest.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
It literally take an extra 5 seconds to log in using the authenticator.
I'd have to agree with the 2nd authenticator. Not for me, but for the people out there who get phished and whatnot so easily. People aren't the most intelligent, so it makes sense. Now logistics.... I'd be curious!Oh, and by not for me, I meant I don't "need" it, but will definitely invest in it. Better safe than sorry for all those hours and dollars of game time.
/sighStupid people who use their WoW login info for other unsecure sites, morons who share their login info, and idiot gold buyers/powerlevelers have caused this.I know it only takes a few more seconds to use the authenticator, I just don't like being forced into purchasing unnecessary crap. The Battle.net merge wasn't bad, but we weren't forced to pay an extra fee.If this is made mandatory, I would like to see Blizz role this transition into Cata (without an added $10 fee mind you).
The second password is moderately painful, but I feel safer against hacking. Plus, I have my free pet.
Out of curiousity... a friend and I hae each other's account info, for tradeskilling purposes. He has 4 toons that have half the TS's maxed, I have the rest... if we were required to use authenticators, this would pretty much end our deal, would it not?
My friend and I played Diablo II together, same deal. We then went to Everquest in 2001, and now play WoW. If he stole all my stuff on WoW, losing the friend would hurt more than a stupid game.Occasionally, he'll get on my 'lock to help me with the seasonal stuff when I can't play, and I do the same thing for his pally... our mains. Trust me, the friendship is far more important. But, Mr. Sarcastic, my question was, could I still log on to his account, or do I need HIS authenticator plugged into my PC to do this? Idon't fully understand how they work.I know we have a different relationship than most playng WoW, and Bliz could probably give a crap if we stopped playing due to this. I was just wondering if we could get around it so we coud still enjoy the game and how we choose to play. If you don't approve, ignore me then. I probably care as little about your disapproval as you do about my concerns.
Make it mandatory with Cataclysm. Put one in the box with the expansion.Simple.
