Activision Studio Vicarious Visions Merged into Blizzard Entertainment
22.01.2021 в 14:54
has reported that Activision subsidiary studio Vicarious Visions is being merged into Blizzard Entertainment, in order to provide long-term support to existing Blizzard games and initiatives.
Formed in 1990, Vicarious Visions was a leading developer of several minor Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS titles, best known for porting the acclaimed Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, Star Wars Jedi Knight, and Doom 3 to other platforms. Acquired by Activision in 2005, they became a support studio which helped on a number of projects including Spider-Man, Guitar Hero, Transformers, and Skylanders, though the studio received critical acclaim for their work in porting Destiny 2 to PC and developing the Warmind expansion in 2018. Since Bungie split from Activision, Visions has achieved major success in developing the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remasters, and was rumored to be working on a
Diablo 2 remaster
called Diablo 2: Resurrected.
According to the report, the 200 person team will be employees of Blizzard, "fully dedicated to existing Blizzard games and initiatives", but will remain independently located in Albany, New York. Former studio head Jen Oneal has also been promoted to Blizzard executive vice president of development, reporting directly to Blizzard president J. Allen Brack. Having been purportedly
working on Blizzard projects
for several months now, exactly what their role will be within Blizzard remains to be seen, although it makes the previous
Diablo 2 remaster
rumors much more likely. First reported by French video game news website ActuGaming, details were very scarce, although they made a point of highlighting Blizzard's awareness of the failures of Warcraft III Reforged.
Finally, the last subject that we were able to tackle, Blizzard is aware of the failure of Warcraft III Reforged and considers having made a mistake in the communication around the title by having made it pass too much for a remake while it was just a remaster. An error that the studio does not intend to reproduce in the future.
